False. The Mg will replace another positive ion. Chlorine forms a negative ion. The table of activity of metals indicates that Mg is more active than Fe, so it will replace the iron in the reaction and the iron will come out of solution as a solid.

3 Mg + 2 FeCl3 ---> 2 Fe + 3 MgCl2

Mg will get a 2+ charge as an ion
Fe will have a 3+ charge as an ion in this case
Cl will have a 1- charge as an ion in this case
