Things I tell my students are:
Focus on something such as the ball, or just concentrate on the next point. Do not worry about how you played the last point or anything like that.
Between plays go back to the back fence, touch your racquet to the fence and imagine that upon doing so, you are erasing the past and looking to the future of the match.
Before a match do something that you enjoy. Personally, I listen to music that motivates me or gets my blood pumping.
Do not worry about your next opponent. Work on the moment.

I have had the same problem. But, I learned to focus on nothing else but, the tennis ball. As soon as I see the opponent hit the ball I feel like a new person.

That's hard...it's different for everyone.
My thing is to just turn on the music, close everything out, and just think about the mechanics of every shot.
I don't talk to anyone else, especially the other players.
When I say the mechanics...I think about the little things, such as, make sure to bend my knees on my forehand, and excellerate through on my backhand. And other things like that.
I used to get so nervous...but that really helped me. ^_^
Hope your nerves can calm down!

Well that's a hard one since i get nervous too. Try running in place to get your energy up and don't think about it as a tournament, think about it as practice and you'll do much better.

Good luck!!
