It depends entirely on how you punctuate it.
You are supposed to put quotes around a word you are using for the sake of talking about the word without using it in context.
There are three correct ways to punctuate this all providing different answers.
Spell "backwards" fowards
Spell backwards "forwards"
Spell "backwards forwards"

It depends what emphasis she put on what word.
If it was spell 'backwards' forwards it would be = b.a.c.k.w.a.r.d.s. The reason being that she asked you to spell the word 'backwards' forwards, and not reversed or anyother way, just forwards.
If it was spell ' backwards forwards' it would be = b.a.c.k.w.a.r.d.s. f.o.r.w.a.r.d.s.
The reason being that she asked you to spell the two words.
