"a vato" is the same as "a guy" or "a dude".

If you are really serious and absolutely must know, it is obviously slang and is similar to "homie". It is mostly used by gang members or those who try to act the part. I haven't heard that word in years and don't know if it's still used.

The Esperanto word 'vato' means 'cotton wool'.

I dunno what language is that but in the Philippines there is a word "bato" which literally means "rock" or "stone".
