you know what. I want to go to med school and I gave up on that dream when I was 19 after I was diagnosed. Im 24 today and after trying all the the other majors and tracks its still something I want to do . Is there anyone who has bipolar and who is going through med school right now? If so do you have any advice on how to make it in and through?

Im Bipolar 1 and have a PhD. It was hard because when I was younger in school, I cycled frequently and the stress was really hard on the bipolar illness.

You can do it!

You need to get a GOOD doctor and a therapist. The pressures are tough and stress can really get to you. If you are in contact with your doctors, they can help you.

Stay on your meds. Get enough sleep. Eat well. Try and exercise.

It sounds crazy, but you have to MAKE the time to do this, even in med school. Take care of yourself and you will succeed.

It took me a littler longer to finish my PhD because when I was younger I did not listen to my own advice and had some problems. But once I got a good doctor team, took my meds, and got some sleep, things got better. I stayed on a regimen and kept the structure and finished. You can too!

I'm not going to med school but I am bipolar and I work at a courthouse. It gets hard sometimes but I really try to stay positive and push myself to do better. People don't understand what it's like and I'm not sure they ever will but as long as you know this is what you want to do and you keep your head up high, you can accomplish anything. Good Luck!

I'm not going to med school...but I'm bipolar and I'm a mother and in college and going to be a teacher. You can do anything you want to if you try hard enough and make use of the tools that are available to you. Go to therapy, take medicine if you need it, learn relaxation techniques and meditation exercises, alter your diet. Do whatever you need to do to be as healthy as you can and you can accomplish anything you want to. I firmly believe that if you want it bad enough to overcome just about anything. Good luck and don't let your illness rule your life. You're slightly sick not dead.
