This guy living on the 20th floor in an apartment building got up early each morning to go to work in a downtown store. He always went into the elevator on the 20th floor and rode down to the entrance (1st floor). When he came home he always rode the elevator from the entrance and up to the 8th floor. He walked out of the elevator and walked the stairs up to his apartment on the 20th floor.
Why don't he take the elevator all the way up to his apartment?

He works downtown so he goes down in an elevator.
And has to come uptown to get home, so that may be why he doesn't take the elevator all the way up to his apartment! Because he wants to walk 12 floors up becuase his work is 12 blocks away???

He was short... in more ways then one. What he was doing (walking up 12 flights of stairs) was not necessary. He could ask for an apartment on one of the first 8 floors, or he could carry a foldable pointer with him...

Well, I have heard this a lot, and the original answer was that he was a young boy (going to school, not work)
other possible answers are:
he is a midget
he is a midget without an umbrella
and last,but not least
he is a midget without an umbrell, AND he cannot talk,so he cannot ask somebody else to help him.

The answer is easy,it's because that person is a midget and only can reach as far as the 8 button.

i have seen this one on here before...so i dont know....i dont remember what the answer was for it
but my guess would be that he is a very short dude who cant reach up for the other buttons including 20.....so he can reach the number 8 and that is as high as he can go

I once knew someone whose elevator didn't go to the top floor also.

He was a midget who didn't have an umbrella, so couldn't push the button for twenty, even when it rained. Also, he was dumb (meaning he couldn't speak), so he couldn't ask anyone to push the button for him when he was riding with someone else.
