i have a 2005 nissan x-trail with sandard fit bird eye sat nav which is now out of date. i am looking to update it to latest spec ie. 2007 model to include all new roads etc. i am sure it is only a case of inserting a new cd. nissan dealer says updates come out every couple of years and they cost upward of £300 which is riddiculous. any help appreciated

Nissan Sat Nav Disc

Hi there, The info you have been given by the dealer is correct, The discs when loaded into the cars at pdi are out of date before you use them. Any update is as it says an update and only tops up the disc info you already have and is out of date too. New roads and streets are being built everyday and they seem to be relying on post codes which give an area which is better than your sat nav not finding street name.
We have had a few complaints of peoples sat nav not working in older cars and when we check the system, we find that copied discs of an update are being used and the data reader cannot read them properly and the system freezes and behaves badly. I would not recommend that you use a genuine disc which as to come from recognised supplier which I think is "Xanavi" there is another make for Nissan but this is less popular.
If you think about the cost of a new sat nav system ie tom tom the cost difference is neglible and the Nissan system is fab so stick with it.
Have a great New Year!
Cheers

Nissan dealer is correct.

My portable Nav is running with maps from 2 years ago. Who cares, worst case it will get you near and not exact.

I just don't see paying all that money every year, when for years a printed map was all we used.

Also the map data is usually 1-2 years old by the time you get your hands on it. ie.. a 2007 update is using road map data that was collected in 2005-2006 at the very best.

Being from USA i don't know what year model 54 reg is. Zenrin International Corp is the software provider for Nissan navigation systems that do not have hard drive systems. Actual year and model would be helpful.

Zenrin.com
For the US - $190 American + free shipping at this time; firmware update cd and the map DVD, takes 2 disc for the install. (be sure of what you are sure of mate)

There's a newer version of the Nav system itself, and both are not compatible...
