Really your doctor should be advising on this. I myself use the "Accuhaler" that has a 200mcg delivery of Salbutomol, as required, this being because of my alpha 1 anti trypsin, and am on a combination of inhalers.
To yourself, Salbutomol is a quick remedy allowing the bronchial passages to open and ease quickly, then allowing your lungs to function to their optimum level. When using it I have found that staying in the environment where I used the inhaler for a passage of time allows yourself to "adjust" and maximise the benefit of your dosage.
You can now (with some surgeries) get phone appointments, where your GP may allocate 15-30 minutes of their surgery to discuss matters like yours as against a full appointment.
If they are unavailable, try your pharmacist. Like a good doctor, when suing items such as a nebuliser, a pharmacist helps your self-confidence in such matters.
Have a good New Year and happy inhaling

Hi,

I've had a nebuliser for a few years now as every time I needed to borrow one from my local doctors they were all out.

I can only pass on my own experience, part of which is if you are bad enough to need to use a nebuliser, you should see your GP as soon as possible. Something I learnt to my cost & ended up in hospital.

Anyway, the dosage I've been given (always under my doctors supervision), is one 5mg salbutamol nebule up to four times a day. I was also on oral steroids at the same time for up to a maximum of two weeks

However, I cannot stress enough that useing a nebuliser as I've indicated above, should not be done with out seeing your GP first.
I have used it once or twice when there has been a delay in getting to see my GP, but I had already made the appointment.

Useing a nebuliser is no substitute for good asthma management. You cannot & shouldn't use it instead of a preventative such as seretide.

Sorry if I sound like a real nag, but I used to be rubbish at getting to see my GP if my asthma was bad, and it very nearly cost me dearly. I don't want anyone else to be in that position.

My son has asthma and the respiratory therapist said that if your having an asthma attack or having problems getting your airways to open you can use your nebulizer every 3 hours til there is relief. As for the amount of Albuterol solution....... usually they are sold in plastic vials that are ready to use , you just twist off the top and then add it to the container. If your using your nebulizer too much you need to talk to your Dr. and see if he/she can prescribe some Prednisone that always helps my boys and they can breathe without the aid of the nebulizer usually in a day and they stay that way for a few months in the cold weather and about 4-6 in the warm months. Good luck to you Asthma is a horrible disease and you should make sure that you personally can use your nebulizer every 3 hours. I was told every 3 hours by my sons resp. therapist and also the pharmacist that filled the script.

This is a question best asked of your doctor. The maximum would be something like 4 times a day. Most people who have asthma are on a longer acting bronchodilator and that limits how much they use salbutamol.
Have you seen an asthma/respiratory disease specialist? If not, they are the ones to see. I know a number of people who have severe asthma that is controlled very well and you wouldn't know they had it unless you saw the medicine or they told you. These people have the inhalers nearby if they need it, but it is rare to see them actually using them.

Usually the information that you want should be on the prescription lable on your medications, But i know when i was a beginner it said take 2 inhalations 2ice daily.
Salbutamol should be one inhalation 2ice daily.

Both things that i am on, and have been for years. I think that you should make sure that your doc tells you about this before you get the prescription, you don't want to take too much or too little, as you can do harm to yourself, or your lungs.... Take care
Best wishes.

Really only twice with 5mls of salbutomol (ventolin). Inhalers can be used more often but keep to the prescribed amount becuase ventolin has nasty side effects if you over do it, the worst being increased heart rate.
