Given today's economic atmosphere, other than English the top 3 would be:
Chinese; China has nearly 1/4 of the world's population, and is one of the largest economies in the world.
Russian: A vast country with amazing resources, if they stabilize and develop there could be a lot of opportunity. Also, most of the ex "Soviet Bloc" countries learned Russian at some point.
Spanish: The language of Central and South America
A possible other would be Arabic, since it is spoken by a huge number of people across north africa and the middle east

The Romance languages. French, Spanish, Italian, etc., because they have much of the same syntax, grammar, and verb conjugation. In other words, they even sound alike in some instances. Once you learn one, its just a matter of learning the NEW Words to replace the old words, the rest of the hard stuff will pretty much fall into place.
Also, German is a great language, having so much in common with english.

I think it depends on your interests...
If you mean in general, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Hindi are spoken by the most people. Arabic is also becoming prominent.
For business: Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Japanese are probably the best.
If you're interested in Africa, then I'd say French, Arabic, and Swahili.
The question is so broad.
