Mainly because you are an idiot, Idaho Mike. There is no "language of the United States of America". Most Americans speak English, but there are an awful lot of Americans (not Mexicans, but AMERICANS) who speak Spanish as well or instead of English. Why don't you just crawl back in your racist hole up there in Idaholand and keep believing that you are the only person on the planet.

Its because the US respects and recognizes its Spanish speaking population. And as it may be well known worldwide, Americans, Spanish speaking or not, are not known for their geographical skills. Perhaps you are an American that speaks Spanish but you dont know the flag of any Spanish speaking country, so US in Espanol is what you choose. Why is this an issue? Yahoo is an American company and if they want 500 US flags on their page, they should do it. And, so you know, Mexico is not the only Spanish speaking country, and not all Spanish speaking citizens of the US are from Mexico. And FYI, until VERY recently the US did NOT have an official language. So you cannot really expect its inhabitants to learn English over the 4 months that we have. Perhaps its not PC, but openminded.

The purple sq. between the two US flags is unquestionably the Vietnamese flag. Is that what you meant? Quebec has had to be cut loose something of Canada for an rather long term. this is effective of Yahoo to enable them to faux they are. It additionally saves all and sundry on Y!A Canada from having to sort their questions and solutions in the two languages!

hahaha your own ignorance deceives you ....... which countries language do you think is more widely known in the US? Englands or Spains? There is no US language dufus. We are a country of diversity that is continually changing and if you can't read the writing on the wall then you will find yourself left behind. Start being grateful there still is an English version of the US site for all of us who are lacking the knowledge and fortitude to learn 2nd language for what will become in our lifetime a bilingual country like most other modern countries.

That is messed up, why do we have an American Flag with En Espanol next to it? Is that the equivelant of Press Numero Dos Para Espanol or Press 1 for English?

Same as TV channels, radios, newspapers, etc (in Spanish) Since the US is a multi race - multilingual country, I guess it facilitates the integration. Speaking both, English and Spanish you cover the highest part of the western hemisphere's languages.

Yahoo is altogether too PC. First they killed the message boards because we got a little too raucous for their taste, and now this. What a bunch of lamers.

Because the flags are for the country from which you're using the computer. If you're accessing from the US and speak Spanish, you use the second flag.
