I have been driving this used car for about 30k without any problems. Now there is squeaking, squealing noise coming from the belt area. I do see the 2 belts and thats where the noise comes from and its more when in Drive or Reverse (and stays at constant, same noise level). Should I just replace these two belts or could the noise be coming from something esle ? Also, should I take it to the BMW dealer or any good repair shop be able to diagnose, fix this problem ?

a way to tell immediately if its the belt is to spray somthing like wd-40 or some lightweight spray oil at the belt while its running .. if it stops its the belt .. i'd replace it(them)

The belt's have tentioners and these are a common source of the squeeling that your describing so check those. Also the water pump has bearings in it that if bad will squeel, to check that just grab the fan and wiggle the pully on the front of the waterpump, if it move side to side the bearings are bad. If it is a squeak that is consisten then it does sound like the belts, these can be changed in about 30 minutes but if you want to take it to a shop. I do this all day for about 80 bucks regardless of the make of vehicle. I have a private business and work on all foreign makes. Taking it to the dealer just seems to make it cost more. I dunno why.
