I don't have OCD But I know alot of people who do. Are you more obsessive or compulsive? Are you seeking help? There are medications and support groups out there that can help. Look up the National Alliance For the Mentally Ill website and they have lists of support groups all over the country. Good luck to you!!

Yes, I have OCD. I am 18 years old and I don't really know when it began, but I was recently told I have it. It completely ruins my life, too. Among other things, I have an extreme irritation to the sound of my brother's cough, so whenever he gets sick, I FREAK OUT. My family holds this against me and finally had me see a therapist. I was convinced from the start that even a professional couldn't help me, and so far I am right. I feel like I've gotten nowhere with this and, even worse, we may not be able to continue to afford therapy for me. I refuse to go on medication because that kind of treatment scares me. I also worry about stupid things way too much. It isolates me from the rest of the family. I just don't know what to do anymore. You're right, no one understands. I don't think they ever could. I think it would benefit both of us if we talked to each other about what we're going through. Please email me from my profile. I'd love to talk. Take care.

Yes, my life is a mess because of it too.
I wish I could overcome it, but I can't imagine ever being totally free of it. I try to ignore it or tell myself it's not me that needs to do this, it's just some glitch in my brain, but the compulsions always seem to win over in the end, no matter how much I try to ignore them. It seems the more I try to fight it, the worse it gets.
I know I am wasting so much of my life because of this, amongst other related problems. It doesn't seem fair, because the rest of my family are totally free from any mental health issues, and I have too many to count.
I hope you can get some help to overcome your OCD or at least make it more bearable. It's such a soul destroying disorder disorder that takes over your whole life, you don't deserve to suffer like this, none of us do.
Take care and Merry Christmas : )

My sister and I have Tourette syndrome and OCD (they are the same thing, just tics w/ one. ADHD belongs in there too). It is a pretty awful disorder. The mindracing is the worst part. My mind would not shut off, especially at night. I would think of a million things, like a tornado was in my head.
I take Cymbalta which helps a lot. My sister takes Strattera, nonamphetamine for ADHD, that really helps her.

OCD has messed up my life, too. I was very afraid of seeking help and being put on medicine. However, the antidepressant I have been on for the last 3 years has put OCD in the background of my life, not in charge of it anymore. Please see a doctor or mental health professional. Your right-people without OCD cannot understand the hell that it is. Please get help. You're not crazy and it's not your fault.

I have a friend that has it, as well as ADHD. It is hard for him. People do not understand his behavior alot of times, but he is one of my favorite people. What others may call embarrassing I call fun and unconventional. If you think that it is ruining your life you should speak to a professional. You sound depressed. I wish you well. God loves you and he must have giving you this to bear for a reason. Try to find your mission and you will find your blessing.

I don't, but I think the Army checks to see if one has this disorder in order to qualify for the job as a supply sergeant.
