They r really close together. Lonely is when you feel like you r alone in the world, and you would like someone there that maybe you could talk with and do things with. Sad is when you feel a sadness for someone, or something going bad, or cause a loved one died or even your pet. So the two are really close, and they can go han in hand, or they can be different. It is only going to be answered by you cause you know why you are feeling sad, and and why you are lonely. Please call a crisis line close to you, and seek some professional help, before this gets too out of control...

I hope you can have a merry christmas

Sad is the feeling you feel when a family member or someone you know dies (or grief, I guess you could see). Loneliness is just that empty feeling you get when you realize you have NO ONE to share your life with. This is easy to get to if you're in a new environment with no support network around. Sure, loneliness can lead to feelings of being sad. Chances are, if you're feeling both then you're DEPRESSED - a state of feeling all the different emotions you described above. I suggest you get some help or get around a CROWD to get some excitement during this holiday season. You don't need to stay by yourself. Get to where the action is. You'll feel better.

Sadness can be caused by a vast number of things, loneliness being one of the possible causes. Loneliness itself is caused most often by a feeling of abandonment or solitude.
