Ditto what everyone else has said so far (except Dr. Chester) but I have something else to add also. If you have and imbalance, do not let it slide. Make sure you maintain your treatment with a good Dr. because if you truly have an imbalance it will never go away. Thyroid imbalance, either high or low, sets off harmful chain reactions in your body that get worse over time. Also, thyroid imbalance could be a symptom of more serious illnesses like pituitary tumors and endocrine disorders such as Cushing's. I am not trying to scare you, it is just that I have been there and done that. After being treated for two years by one Dr. another Dr. found that I have a pituitary tumor, which is fairly easy to correct but is hard to find and very harmful. If you are worried about losing weight keep searching for a good Dr. that will set you up with a good nutrition clinic. For me it took a Hematologist to do that.

It's unclear whether you mean without thyroid medication or without a thyroid glands.
There are many ways to lose weight that don't require thyroid pills, but those who have had their thyroid removed or have low or hypothyroidism are prone to gain weight and have many other health problems.
Taking thyroid to lose weight if your own is normal can be quite dangerous,.

If your replacement thyroid hormone level is right, there should be no effect on weight. Low thyroid hormone will cause weight gain, but not through fat deposition.

If you have hypothyroidism, you would gain weight as one of the symptoms. If you have hyperthyroidism, you would lose weight.
