What will vinegar to to the bulb of a green onion? My daughter has to do an experiment for school?

and she has to put one onion in water and the other in water and vinegar...I am guessing the one with vinegar will "rot" because it is more acid??

I am just asking so that I can lead her the right way as I haven't done all this in about 35 years. Yes it is AN experiment.
