If its caused by the physical condition itself, like thyroid or harmonal then its best to use some form of medication. However being a panic sufferer for many years and not using any medication what so ever- I fought it on my own basically, mind over matter that sort of thing.
There are many forums and many sites about this terrible disorder. I am fine most days and my best advice to you is never avoid things because of fear of an attack. even if you think that you wont make it, you always will. Force yourself to do things as much as possible.
Good luck

First off, congratulations for recognizing that you have anxiety. It's easy for someone that doesn't suffer from this to comment. My sister has been suffering with health related anxiety for years. She leads a healthy lifestyle and yet I've seen her succumb to her fears in a matter of minutes and be paralyzed and bed ridden for days. She has improved since she joined a group of similar types. When she feels anxious she calls someone in the group for support and that helps alot. Until I understood more about why this happened with her, I thought she was nuts. I'm the calm one in the family, it's hard to get me to jump for anything. Now I offer her whatever I can, sometimes I just let her go off. She has 3 kids and a stressful job, so that doesn't help , but not everyone can change their lifestyle. She'd move to the mountains if she could. If you don't have a medical diagnosis, get one. Realize that life is short, too short to spend so much time worrying about stuff. Go with the flow and try and relax.

Prescribing those drugs for a panic attack is pretty extreme. You would be much better of dealing with your anxiety through counselling and relaxation exercises. If this had been going on for months then it would be worth trying medication if other methods first, but giving you pills like this is just giving you the brush off. Go back and ask for counselling instead of pills.

Deal with the problem. It helps to know what your enemy is. And yes, get help either from a support group or from a physician.
You might also want to try yoga or other calming meditation techniques.
Good luck!

You deal with the health problems first.
If one has cancer and he fears of dying he gets panic attacks.
So he must first get rid of cancer...
(bad example I know but informative)
