I am looking to buy a new camcorder and have heard that the Sony is the best, is this the case ?

The High Definition HDD Handycam HDR-SR1E is probably the best for that price, it also has a 30gb hard disk drive.
As far as camcorders go, I have always found Sony to be the best.

The best DVD camcorders are the ones that consumers leave on the store shelf. The DVD is too unreliable to make it a suitable media for real time recording.
I'm a big Sony fan, but I stick to tape - MiniDV.
