He is doing an awesome job going potty. When he has to go he will take off his diaper and go but when I put boxer briefs on him and pants he just goes in his pants. I dont get it because like I said he will take his diaper off to go but not clothes? Any advice?

I would keep in him in a pullup for A few weeks longer
part of potty traing is the weight of the material around his hips and bottom. he is just a baby so he has to idenify each and every new sense. he is just himself and he isnt in a hurry.but notice he is trying his very best! or just Try putting his boxers over his pull
ups.... so they both come off at the very same time, a visual aid might help. good luck .he sounds so sweet!

Firstly good on him for been potty trained but just give him time to figure out the diaper/boxer problem. I would say the reason he is taking of his diaper not his boxers to go to the loo is cause he has become so use to the diaper it seems natural for him to remove it but on the other hand the boxers are something new and he may not be sure.

They make potty training pants and believe it or not it might help they are underwear that are thicker than regular underwear so it will be cloth but feel like a diaper and you can eventually switch him to thinner underwear they work great i had the same problem with my son and this helped. they are training pants and can be found in the baby and toddler section at anystore and they are actual underwear. good luck i hope this helps

The diapers retain water and feel wet. He can dribble a little and feel it and say oh damn I better get to the potty but with boxers there is no safety catch.

I had the same problem with my three year old when we were potty training. I was told that it is because under-ware is new and they are rebelling against the change. I just let my son go in a diaper for a while and then slowly transferred to pull ups and then to under-ware and had no more problems

I think it confuses them to go back and forth from underwear to diapers and vice versa. Stick with only underwear. In a few days, he will know you're being consistent. After a few accidents in his underwear he will realize how uncomfortable he feels and he'll start going on the potty only.

Do what my mom did with my stubborn potty training brother- take him outside (in the cold rain whatever) and hose him off. That way he will associate going potty in his underware as an embarrassing and uncomfortable thing.
