ok firstly I am going to assume you are in North America....

now the cost in general depends on 2 things - the quality of the dog... and the greed of the breeder

generally REPUTABLE breeders charge more for quality pups - a REPUTABLE breeder is easily distingushed becasue they took the mom to shows to PROVE she was a top quality dog WORTHY of breeding AND had her checked by a vet for breeding soundness and other genetic problems....becuase they invest so much in the pups their pups are more costly... also they ALWAYS vaccinate, deworm etc AND offer guarantees and they SCREEN potential new owners

greedy people - there is a range here the WORST being pet stores who buy pups cheap and mark their prices up hideously high.... these pups are cute but certainly low quality and contribute to a cruel industry but thats another topic...
back yard breeders are people who simply own a dog and decide to breed it with no care as to the quality of either parent... then they simply pull a price out of a hat and go with that
you should NEVER pay a cent for a dog that isnt vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked.. and to be honest with you unless there is some kind of guarantee I think that cost is a tad high..($350 would be more reasonable) but I suppose its different everywhere

if the pup has NO vet check, NO vaccinations and NO health guarantee then is isnt worth a penny... I have heard sooooo many stories of people buying pups who then die or get very ill in 3 months becuase of heart problems...

the guarantee is VERY important because even if the pup was checked by a vet initially there are some genetic health problems that dont show up right away

NEVER NEVER buy from a pet store - you can be sure you are getting ripped off

They can range from 800 for females and up to 1000 for a male. It also depends on the breeder and weather or not they have a 'show dog' back round.

It all depends on what area of the world you are getting them, and the bloodline.
Someone may charge you $450 for a nasty "mongrel" and get awaya with it, and someone may undercharge you because they just cant get rid of the dog!
