My great-aunt's husband recently died. He wasn't a nice man, but my aunt loved him and he used that against her all the time. Anyway, his 'dying wish' is that she get his name tatooed on her neck in one inch letters. She is insistent that she will see this through. How can I stop her having 'Graeme' emblazoned on her forever?

She is 77, and quite an elegant lady. It is a ridiculous scenario to deal with.

TRy & talk her out of it. The neck is such a visiable place to have a tattoo. You could always suggest her having one, in a more discreet place

God how old is she? That sounds like your Uncle was trying to have a permenant hold over her even from the grave. You need to sit and talk to her and tell he this is not right and just hope she will listen. At the end of the day you can only advise her you cant stop her if thats what she want to do! x x x

Suggest she have it done temporarily to see if she likes it first? At least that way, she technically did have it done...but it doesn't have to be permanent.
Anyway, I never did understand that...how's the person who's died going to know if you did it or not?
Ultimately, however, it WAS her husband, and it IS her life and her decision to abide by his wishes or not (unfortunate if she does...control from beyond the grave!)

You can do one of two things :
1 - Get her to understand that its the Thought that counts and you're sure that your uncle will be very happy by the fact that she is actualy seriously going to do it ...
If that fails then....
2 - Go with her to the Tattoo Parlour and Choose the tattoo ink to be as close to her skin colour as possible
;-)
He said tattoo the name , he didnt say do it in Black ? Now did he ???

If she's fool enough to go through with it; let her. Her elegant friends may not find her quite so "elegant" when she looks like she just got released from Sing-Sing.

Yes it is ridiculous. If she really wants it done, ask her to get a henna tatoo somewhere that only she can see.

Tell her if she feels it necessary to get this done to prove her love for him, should you therefore do the same with your great-aunts name on your neck.
