No, because of two words: Diversity and Collaboration
Asking other people and getting a variety of answers helps you understand a problem from different angles, including angles that perhaps you or your "family" may not have been able to think about or see at the time.
I don't consider myself super highly educated, but after obtaining my college degree and taking several management classes, I can say that a group of people can solve a problem quicker and more efficiently than one or two people alone. There are even case studies out there that prove that group collaboration can provide insight and input that one mind alone cannot comprehend.
You see, we all think differently. We all have different mind sets, different beliefs structures, as well has different experiences and lives. You can look at solving a problem and see several ways, but it's those several ways are still only limited to your perspective and your own thoughts or feelings on a subject. Now if you get a dozen people who don't know you or your situation to look at the same problem and each come up with several solutions, you now have over two or three dozen solutions that you can evaluate and decide which is best or create a new solution base on facts and ideas of others.
I work for the state-wide Primary Care Association (we work for the community clinics and health centers) and collaboration is a huge part of solving problems. With public health, there are a lot of problems out there that cannot be solved by just one or two individuals. It takes several meetings with a variety of people dissecting the problem and suggesting solutions to each part. As a whole they solve one big problem.
I hope I was able to explain why it's so beneficial to ask people you don't know. You will get some really dumb and unhelpful answers sometimes, but many times you can get at enough good answers to make a more educated and complete decision.
Best wishes to you! I hope you are able to make a positive use of yahoo answers. :)

Family can tend to be one sided, and give you the advise of what they want you to do. When people ask questions here they get answers from the knowledge and experience of others that family may not have experienced.

Sometimes it is easier to ask people you dont know and that are on the outside of the situation. It doesnt effect them, so therefore they can be completly true and not have to hide or lie about how they truly feel!

Getting advise for outsiders sometimes is best because family often tells you what you want to hear, this way you get others opinions and views of the situation

Maybe, but maybe some people cannot go to family or don't have family to go to. So if people want to get questions from people why is it any of your business not trying to be rude or anything. Some people can't go to their family or friends because it is to personal.

Some people dont have many people to talk to. This can be a scary thing. I think it is a really interesting thing to ask strangers questions. its fun, and very educational.

Yes, but sometimes people have a better insight on the same situation.
Besides if you have such a problem with it then why are posting up a question now?

no because sometimes your family doesn't know what to say or how to act about it and sometimes asking family isn't enough for some people.

sometimes you can get a more honest answer for certain question on line (general) but personal questions perhaps are best answered by someone you know.love&peace.
