I am being medicated for a hypothyroidism. I got test results today that show that my thyroid is getting back to normal but my triglycerides are at 255. My colesteral is fine. I try to eat a low fat diet (been rough with the holidays) and don't eat a lot of sweets. I don't want to go on more medication. Any suggestions? My doctor mentioned some drug that blocks fat? What would they put you on to reduce your triglycerides?

Triglyceriderides are found in foods that you least expect.

Eat a healthy diet of fruits and veggies, and only whole grains, and exercize. Exercize actually helps lower your trigylcerides!

If you cut out junk food, the count will go down. Cut out eggs and if possible, red meat.

Eat bran. Bran muffins are good. All Bran cereal is another good source. Oat Bran tablets are OK too.

No fried foods. That's where you get a lot of problems.

Fat blockers are BS unless it is a prescription, and then be careful.

Have you been checked for metabolic disorder? It's a precursor to diabetes. High triglycerides are common in that disorder, so take action NOW to get your levels lowered.

There are many drugs such as lipitor, for example, that are used to lower cholesteral. Reduce your intake of butter, eliminate fried foods and fast foods. Use olive oil, which is a good fat. INcrease your activity alittle every 4-5 days to your tolerance. Contine with your doctor follow-up visits. You'll feel better in no time.
