depends on what kind of schizophrenic...there are 5 different kinds. Most are non-violent and if they commit a crime, usually it is not very severe. Most usually see them as rude, inappropriate, or just outright shocking. Severe crimes are left usually to the paranoid type. The paranoid schizophrenic would be the most likely candidate to commit a violent crime as their symptoms include powerful delusions, and hallucinations but still can think clearly (aside from the hallucinations and delusions). Their thoughts and thought processes are not disorganized. They can still read, write, and solve mathematical equations. They are just as competent as the next person to operate heavy machinery, drive vehicles, and perform the necessary details that any job would require. This is also what makes them so dangerous. Many times no one ever notices anything is wrong with the peron until it is too late to do anything about it. Many a paranoid shcizophrenic roams the same paths as us. Kind of scary. Because of the fact that they are just as competent as us, they are able to plan terrible crimes that are fueled by thier own delusions. Thier delusions can be so powerful that they won't listen to anyone. There is no convincing them. The second type, the catatonic, is very different from the paranoid. They are not competent like the paranoid. The catatonic is known for an absence of interest in things...overall satisfaction is diminished, and a decreasing desire to remain in the company of others. This is entirely different from things you many associate with this such as depression, although it may include depression. Speech becomes rare. Sometimes when they do talk, thier speech is very much out of the ordinary. They speak things that make sense only to themselves. Random blabbings that no one can decode. Almost possessing a riddle-like nature. The thrid type is the disorganized. They are known for thier disorganized thoughts similar to the catatonic but also include various obscene/peculiar gestures or remarks. Contrary to catatonics, the disorganized are not known for separating themselves from others. One of the things they are known for is removing thier clothes in public places which a crime but it is non-violent. The disorganized are also prone to speaking random sentences that are completely out of the direction of the conversation that only make sense to himself/herself which is again like the catatonic. The fourth, the residual schizophrenic has symptoms of psychosis relative to the other 4 categories but to a much lower degree...many times, enough to function as a "normal" citizen. Some schizophrenics actually recover to some extent and recieve a change in thier diagnosis from any of the 4 types to a residual. It is not as common to recover to that extent for many various reasons. Some of which are the responsibility of the diseased and some reasons are totally out of their control. The 5th type of shizophrenic is the undifferentiated type which is a person who shows symptoms of psychosis that either do not relate to any of the other types or inculde symptoms from any or all of the other four.
The type of crime that a schizophrenic would commit is entirely relative to the type of schizophrenia the person has and to the extent of severity. The type most likely to commit a crime would probably be the paranoid but the type of crime they would commit would be dependant upon their specific delusion(s), or delusion of choice. I would say that it is pretty much unpredictable for the most part. What distinguishes a person as a pschizophrenic, like most disorders is that thier behavior is abnormal. Differnt than the average person. Its thier abnormal actions that diagnose them. Not their specific actions such as a violent crime as many a sane man has committed a violent crime. The emphasis is always on abnormal.

Schizophrenics very, very rarely go on insane killing sprees! They are most likely to commit very minor felonies, such as stealing chocolate bars or shouting at shop mannequins - or to have a felony committed on them, in their challenged state.

Schizophrenia is an illness so do not try to put more on them then they already suffer with. Try to get your facts straight. Illness does not make a person a criminal. A few can do things that are illegal due to being sick but so do the ones without mental illness. I think what you are trying to do is get everyone up in arms against people with mental illness with that question.

Most commonly only self harm.
They are most harmful to themselves.
But apart from this, if they are off the medication anything could happen depending on how they became Schizophrenic.
Each case is different.

Schizoids can't commit a crime because the other person always did it. Which one do you convict?
Some say I have a split personality, but I don't, and neither do I.
