I completely agree. The "mentally depressed" line is used all too often as a loophole for someone not to face the consequences of his/her actions.

The crime you committed was cut and dry but on the other hand: This is a society that refuses to ACCEPT responsibility for THEIR ACTIONS and our Dr.'s, Counselors, and Legal System supports this. We have become a "Pass the buck" society eg: the music made me do it, the movie made me do it, drugs made me do it, depression made me do it etc, etc, etc. Another good example is the allowing of digital imaging of child porn: these pedophiles that look at this S**t will act out on it eventually, but Freedom of Speech protects this. Then if they are arrested they will blame the pictures that they seen on the Internet and there for "the Internet made me do it".The ones that I like are when a child is molested and the culprit gets probation, but let someone smoke and joint( one their time) and get hurt at work they will loose their job and/or go to jail for at least 1 year. The better part of our system is backed up by the God almighty ACLU and people (mainly liberals) that take the attitude "if it don't affect us we don't care. The legal system is no longer a place for justice, but a place to find a way to blame something or someone else!!!!

So you didn't have a suspended license. What is it you aren't telling us? Were you drunk? Did you have a warrant out for your arrest? Whatever. And why are you comparing being jailed to Andrea Yates? She'll be in a mental institution for the rest of her life. You're out. So get over it & try not to do something stupid again to avoid going to jail.

The problem here lies in improper defense on your part---
if you had claimed that God had been telling you that it was imperitve that you drive---- you more than likely would have received some counselling and maybe some light guage public service and that would have been that !!! The system LOVES whack jobs--- and it is because most of the people who work in this system can relate to these folks so very well--- they seem to be cut out of the same material !!! So-- the system simply treats them like family and finds a nice little spot for them to "CHILL" for awhile before they set them in motion back out here with the rest of us !!!

The system is not messed up, the system works by connecting the "why" to how to the crime happened. How can you hold someone accountable of their actions with they are proven to not be in the right state of mind, which means she had a chemical imbalance in her nervous system and in her brain. Your brain needs certain chemicals to think correctly, and if your brain is deprived of those chemicals its almost like starving for oxygen.
Would you blame a sleepwalker for murdering someone when they wern't aware of what they were doing when they did it?
While someone who doesn't have a suspended license can go to jail for several reasons within their control, possession of drugs, firearms, kidnapping someone, warrants for their arrest, dangerous driving, drunk driving, or acting like an a*s on the side of the road.

Because you were driving illegally and got caught. The woman was sick when she killed her children and has the excuse of mental illness. What is yours? You need to stop and think about what you are trying to convey here. Each crime has its own punishment. Yours was to go to jail. If she hadn't have been sick, she would be there also.
I agree with the other answerer, Apples and Oranges. Both are crimes, but different kinds.

Yes and for someone trying to tell you what really going on they risk going to jail. You just have to learn how Dictatorships work. I assume you fairly young or you know all this by now.

The woman who killed her kids had a long history of mental disturbance.
You got pulled over while driving illegally. Apples and Oranges.
You are trying desperately to excuse yourself by citing someone worse. She had a legitimate excuse, actual mental illness.
What is yours?
