my friend has a goldfish,and it was upside down and wouldn't move,we poked the tank but it still didn't move,is it sick,or dead?

Chances are your fish is either dead or going to die. Floating is never a good sign, fish do not normally play dead.

It's dead. Goldfish don't swim upside down. Poke the goldfish, and if it continues to not move, then it's dead. Goldfish don't like being poked.

Yes your fish is dead, if it was layed on the bottom of the tank at any point then that means that it got sick first. Maybe your friend should figure out if she did anything wrong or not before she gets another fish, or the same problem may occur.

if it is upside down and floating at the top of the tank it's DEAD.

if it moves its tail its alive but dying, if it is moved because you poked the tank its dead.

I am sorry to say that it's dead.Gold fish are very hard to maintain and i swear till today i was not successful to have a gold fish more than 2 months in my aquarium.
