Legally, how much liquor can I import into the US for personal consumption?

You can bring back one liter duty-free, and there is no limit for quantity if you're willing to pay the 3% duty tax, as well as an excise tax based upon the specific alcohol. Just as long as the shipment isn't so large that it causes suspicion. But each state has its own rules on imports, so you'd have to check your state's import rules.
