I'd ike to visit my family's home but they keep dogs in the house and I've an allergy to dogs. There is otherwise a good relationship but it seems they care more about the dogs than they do about me (why not keep the dogs out of the house so I can visit on weekends?).

I have the same problem with cats and my MIL. I haven't been to her house for Christmas in 4 years. Personally I think it's great. If your family's like my MIL, then yes, their animal is more important than you.

All you need to do is take an antihistamine before going over to their house. You will be fine. There dogs live there and deserve to be inside with the rest of the family, but maybe a compromise can be made if the antihistamine does not work, although it should work and if it doesn't then you prob don't have an allergy to dogs.

keeping the dogs out while you visit won't help.they still have hair and dead skin in the house. So they would need to super clean the house. Can you see about getting some medicine to help out. on nice weekends go over and you stay outside ( BBQ, Yard games and such). winter ask if they could make one room dog free and you stay in that room for a visit.
They are responsible to care for the dogs and changing their habits and scheduales are harder than changing yours

Because the dog live there and you dont...You can still visit them, meet somewhere else...If your allergic to them, then going in there house period will trigger your allergy...Dog hair will be on everything you sit on, walk on, no matter how much they clean....

Either go outside and have a barbeque with them or invite them to a park to have lunch or over to your place. They need to give a littlle also knowing your condition
