That is a statement not a question.
If you cannot make a partner happy by being loving and kind, it is no longer your problem, it is hers (his?)
On the whole, we are not put on this earth to make others happy but to be happy ourselves. Can you be happy with a partner who is not happy?

Be the best you you can be. Your partner will have to find his/her own happiness. Happiness is sometimes (most of the time ??) an inside job.

I spent 26 years trying to make my partner happy - nothing worked. The thought of trying for another 26 years was unbearable - so I left.
I figured at least one of us should be happy.

How long ya'll been married or are you two married? If they want to mope around theres nothing you can do if you've already tried your best? Your NOT in this world to entertain them and I have to speak that to myself also as I write this.I have a negative boyfriend and I feel like I always have to do or say something to bring them out of the pits. Gets tiring after awhile doesn't it?

STeve thats called life and it dont half stink if she not happy tough there is only so much you can do .Ilost my job to bad health i got blamed for tha to i keep the house spotless also not good enough your not alone pal cheers

you have not said why so it is difficult to answer. However, we are all responsible for our own happiness so do not try and take responsibilty for hers. Find someone who is self reliant and work on your own happiness as well.
