I'm new at this cooking thing, but I'm just about to broil some (pepper lime)chicken and was wondering what temperature I should use?

THANKS!

Broil means to cook with radiant heat from above. Most ovens are preset to broil at 500 degrees, The only problem is if you broil the raw chicken, it will be burnt on the outside and raw in the middle!
I would bake it a 375 for about 35-40mins, them jack on the broiler for a minute or two at the end to crisp up the skin.

Broiling Chicken

I use 425 for 26-28 minutes. You can do longer at a lower temp (as you may see from google) however the shorter time yields juicer chicken while still reaching your internal temp of 165. I start my chicken out in the middle of the oven and only move it up to the top rack for the last 8 minutes or so to give them a little browning. I love all of the idiot responses that don't answer your question. Obviously if you are asking this question in the first place then you have an oven with an adjustable broil temp setting... my god people!

Preheat the broiler. Turn the oven to the highest setting and also turn the knob that says bake or broil to the broil setting. Line broiler pan with foil for easy cleanup. Spray the rack of the broiler pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place chicken halves, leg quarters, parts, or boneless, skinless chicken pieces on rack set in broiler pan. Position oven rack so that chicken pieces on the broiler rack are 6 inches (about 15cm) from the heat source. Broil, turning over several times, until juices run clear and internal temperatures reflect properly cooked chicken. Boneless chicken takes approximately 4 to 5 minutes per side; bone-in pieces, depending on the size, take about 20 minutes per side. Use tongs to turn chicken over to prevent piercing and loss of juices during cooking.

there is no temperature to BROIL..it's just an option to use the top coil to cook food in the oven. all you need to worry about is how long to broil it.

Easy Broiled Chicken
INGREDIENTS:
1 3-3 1/2 lb frying chicken, quartered
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
3/4 teaspoon finely minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
2 teaspoons fresh chopped parsley
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
5 tablespoons butter
PREPARATION:
Wash chicken and pat dry. Sprinkle chicken pieces with salt, pepper, garlic, thyme, parsley, and lemon juice, turning to sprinkle on all sides. Preheat broiler, broiling pan, and broiler rack.
Melt the butter over low heat in a small saucepan.
Pour half the melted butter on the skin side of the chicken pieces, then place pieces skin side down on the hot broiling rack. Pour the remaining butter over chicken pieces and broil, about 8 inches from the heat source, for 20 minutes on each side. Serve with the juices, if desired
Serves 4.

Higher temp for shorter time yields juicer chicken breasts. I cook mine at 425 for 26-28 minutes - done! I start them out in the middle of the oven and move them up to the upper rack for the last eight minutes or so to give them a little browning. Enjoy!

Look at the knob on your oven, Broil
Broiling (exclusive to American English) or grilling (elsewhere in the English speaking world) is a process of cooking food with high heat with the heat applied directly to the food, most commonly from above. Heat transfer to the food is primarily via thermal radiation. As it is a way of cooking without added oil, it is popular in low-fat diets.
