I like to make mine with old-fashioned oats and I usually cook it with milk in it. For some reason it just tastes better to me.

I use the quick 1 min oatmeal, the quick 1 min oatmeal is broken into smaller pieces and that allows the cook time to be quicker.
I use 1 can carnation milk and some regular milk in a boiling pan on slow heat for about 5 mins with brown sugar.

Well, when I make it in the morning, I cook the oatmeal with water, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Then, when I serve it in the bowls, I place a scoop of oatmeal, with milk poured on top. I also defintely like the old-fashioned oats, they have a much better taste than instant oats.

The quick oats seem to be a little pastier in texture. The old-fashioned oats hold up a little better during the cooking process. I make mine with a mixture of equal parts water and milk, then add a bit of milk to the bowl (it helps to cool it down). I also like to add about a teaspoon of brown sugar or maple syrup as well. Or chopped bananas or raisins for the little ones.

At home, I use the single serve packs of instant oatmeal and just water with brown sugar in it. Then I top it with granola and fruit.
At the nursing home where I used to cook, I used the old fashioned variety and made it a couple of different ways. The diabetics and chubbies got it made with just water and a touch of vanilla, little packs of Equal on their trays to sweeten to taste. The people who needed the extra calories or fortified foods got a water/milk mixture, brown sugar and butter thrown in during the cooking process. A touch of vanilla for them as well. Cinnamon was just too strong for most of our residents, but they enjoyed the extra flavor from the vanilla. I did cream of wheat, cream of rice - all of my hot cereals, actually - the same way. The residents always knew if it was me cooking that day or my relief cook by how the morning cereal tasted!

I think the old fashioned kind made with w/ water is the best. With milk on it after and brown sugar. Fresh fruit on top too.

I use the minute kind made with a blend of milk and water (that way its easier to clean the pan, and it comes out creamier in texture) The old fashioned kind - I cant seem to recall a difference except it takes longer to cook.

I like the microwave stuff; I'm too impatient to cook it on the stove. I don't usually use milk at all; I just use water, but when it's hot I drown my oatmeal in brown sugar. That probably detracts from the health benefits of oatmeal, huh?

I don't like oatmeal but my parents use the little packaged kind. They usually put water then milk with some brown sugar but you can try whatever style meets your fancy.

I cook mine in water then put the milk on top and then I also put a little cinnamon in mine, it just make it taste good i think. I even put some fruit (you're choice) in mine just before eating.
