Because their friends laugh at them for having emotion most men are raised to act big bad and tough ...so they get teased when they act emotional...it's a guy thing ...its fine as long as he's not disrespecting you or degrading you in front of his friends...its perfectly fine if he likes showing his affection for you in private to avoid the ridicule of his immature friends but the moment he disrespects you in front of them then crawls back to you to apologize is the moment you need to let him go and find a better man.

They are trying to act tough in front of their friends. That's pretty lame, though. There is nothing wrong with writing love letters and generally treating a girlfriend with the love and respect she deserves.

Girl, it's because they have no backbone and are followers. They are the ones who have the potential to stand out of a crowd of jerks, but choose to not let those clowns down by being like them. If a guy knows he likes a girl, and shows it while he is alone with her, but acts differently around his friends, he's a coward, defenitly missing out, and isn't the type of guy to be with unless he develops the guts to be himself and not be afraid of what his friends might say about someone he likes, even if she isn't the type of girl they want to see him with!

Here's some insight into the inner workings of the male mind.
You can't appear soft in front of your boys. We keep each other in check by making fun of each other when a new lady enters one of our lives. I believe this is an evolutionary process that developed among male peers to prevent succubus-syndrome and p*ssywhippings.

They're called peers and when your boyfriend is without his peers he's able to be himself, but when he's around his friends or buddies, then it's natural to see his masculine and even higher levels of testosterone come out!

Their friends would really tease them if they acted like that in front of them. They save face that way. It's called immaturity.

Its because they don't feel its...manly? (laughs) I'm not quite sure, I know what you mean though! My friend is all nice to me when his friends aren't around but when his friends are around, he's all macho man and saying that he "wasn't like that." Or something to that extent. It's their reputation.
