To buy a desktop computer right now that can run Vista well enough to run multiple applications without freezing etc. costs about $1,000. I know for sure because I have tested it and know people using it. That is outrageous. How long until computers will be cheap enough to run Vista fast enough at a decent price? For example when will a computer with a 2 GHz processer, 2 GB Memory(memory eater), 50 GB hard drive (atleast), 300 MB graphics memory (for the new Aero included in ever version but Basic Home) cost $500 new?

Well let me correct you on a few things. First of all saying that a fast computer costing $1000 is outrageous is wrong. Computers are not cheap pieces of hardware, if you want a quality one you need to pay. Secondly, not you or anyone else knows how Vista will perform on any computer, it hasn't come out yet, and going just by how Beta versions performed is not fair. Lastly, the type of specs you described will cost $500 when those specs are outdated. As I said before, you cannot expect to get a top notch computer for $500, it just isn't going to happen. As for those specs you listed, the processor was about right, however you don't need 2GB to run Vista, it should run well on 1GB, and you should be able to run it on a 256MB card, you don't have to use Aero after all.
