I have A CD writer in my computer and I am trying to format some CDs so I can write some things on them.I am running Windows XP. My blank CD's are sony CD-RW. When I put the CD into the drive a warning comes up saying cannot format due to media damage. Can anyone tell me what that means? In language I can understand and not computer language. Thank you Zerotowall

it means that the cd-rw is damaged, and there's a 76% chance that we can't use it again. Try formatting it several times with Nero or the burning software u use.
If nothing happens it's non-usable. It happened with me too some days before. oh well...

If you are letting Windows format them, that's probably your problem right there, as Windows can't do anything! But it is a possibility that the disc could be damaged, I've had that happen many many times. You should download a third party CD burning application like Nero or Easy CD Creator, which unfortunately you have to pay for, but your PC might have came with one and you don't even know it! Good luck!

well, the files you are trying to write may be corrupted, (re-get them from where you got them from) but probobally the cd-rw is not formatted, select the blank cd from my computer and right click it selecting format,
hopefully these will be your problems...

you shouldn't have to format the disk. just try to down load what you want onto the disk and see if that works.
