Can you use a generic memory card instead of a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo in a DSC-S500 Digital Camera?

yes, it oesnt have to be sony, it has to be "memory stick" though

You do not have to buy Sony memory just because you have a Sony camera .
The PRO Duo is best to use for recording high res. movies, but your camera only does movies at 320x240, so doesn't really need it.
Memory Stick Pro might be adequate enough.
But I am sure the PRO Duo will be ok. I always prefer to stick with quality name brands such as Sandisk, which make the Memory Stick PRO Duo.

yes you can use the lexar or san disk duo cards in the S500. As long as the card is in the sony duo format you will be fine.
