i've been with this dude for a long time and he keeps telling me that he loves me and i don't know what to say to him. i'm afraid that i am going to hurt his feeling if i continue to ignore his statement and if i tell him i do love him and its not true i'm hurting myself. i don't want to lie to him because that would hurt him too.What to do? help me please?

Love isn't some magical thing that happens to you nor some needy dependence nor some lustful anxious butterflies. Love is a real abundance of positive thoughts and feelings which you have about someone you are familiar with, based on their personality, behavior, ambitions, interests, and physical features. So go ahead and make a list.
If the good things outweigh the bad, then that is "love." If it's about even, then maybe friendship is all it is? And if it's mostly negative, then you're just not into him.
But remember that much of what we see in others is a reflection of how we feel and think about ourselves, and directly related to our experiences of "love" from our parents.

Simply this..........You know how you feel when you drop someone off at the airport. Well, let's say that this person is leaving for a long time. Pretend that you can't call or write to this person because he is going away to an isolated place. This pretend scenario will give you an idea of how you'll feel if he is not there.

my husband and I have been together 13 years. we THOUGHT we loved eachother when we were married.love grows and changes throughout a relationship. If you truly care about this person and what happens to them and their feelings then you have love for them, I don't think that saying I love you hurts anyone...its your actions that will say it louder though.Consider how mature the other person is too,if they are immature, they may not know the depth of what those words mean to you.

I frankly told my boyfriend outright that I'm not going to tell him I love him until I knew I meant it. Don't lie. Don't say something you know you don't mean from your heart. Explain that you love him as a friend, and like him more. But you aren't quite sure you love him yet.
It's been thirteen months since we've been dating. I finally told him I love him over Thanksgiving, and I could really say it. It was and is amazing to say it now, from my heart, and I never regret avoiding the word. According to him, neither does he. It just made it all that more special once I actually COULD say it.

you should have tell him long time ago that you were not interested ... but for now, tell him that you just want to be his good friend. i know its easier to say than to do but if you lie to him that youre in love, you will hurt him even more in the future, so better clarify things quickly,

You will know when you love someone, it's just a felling that you will get and know what it is..... I agree with some before me. If you loved him then you wouldn't have to ask that question. I have been int aht situation b4 too. I asked him what did he love about me and why.... It helped me become comfrotable with my feelings also. That might help you understand if you ask himt hat too. The way u can tell if u luv sumone is if u will do anything for that certain sumone,and if don't need to ask ur self do i luv so and so! so if u think u would do anything for ur certain sum one then say i luv u but if don't jsut talk to him about it.
