Well I'm not sure what your situation is but I'm married with 3 kids. The most romantic thing my husband has done is this:
He made arrangement for babysitting, then he took me shopping for an evening gown, then, we packed for a surprise second honeymoon to my favorite place place near the ocean, then we saw a show and ate at a 5 star restaurant. later walked along the beach. After that we never left the hotel for the rest of the trip.
The point that I'm making is this: If you go out of your way to find out what she likes then do it that in itself is romantic. Show her that your thinking of her needs and wants.

Truly the most romantic thing my boyfriend ever did was tell me what a great family I had. I come from a fairly crazy clan (dad used to use the kitchen for his physics experiments, and mom disected things that the cats dragged in so we could see how they worked inside), and knowing that he accepted me with all comes along was the best thing that could ever happen. THis may or may not apply to your girlfriend, but I think there are parallels. He made me feel REALLY safe and warm and loved. Reach for something special about your girlfriend that maybe not everyone would appreciate and show her how much you do!
Example: does she have a crappy old car in a color no one could love? Give her a coupon for 10 car-washes (that you'll do personally if you live in a climate that allows that).

Here are some ideas

Send a bouquet of flowers to her work - don't forget to put something nice said on the card.

Pay for a maid to come and clean the house for a month, or two, or three.

Cook a nice meal at your home, make it candle light. Clean up as you cook so there doesn't look like there is a big mess. Then after the meal put on some nice slow music and ask her to dance. Hopefully, this habits is not a one time thing.

I'm single now, but my "dream gesture" would be a guy/boyfriend catching me when I trip. I'm the type that trips and gets cuts and bruises easily, and I think it'd be so sweet if a guy caught me :)

I know it sounds corny and lame, but I like the simple random acts, those are the ones that mean alot to me. Like when he puts his hand on the small of my back when we are walking in or out of somewhere, holding the door for me. Or when we are laying next to each other and he puts his head over on my stomach. Or when he brushes a strand of hair off of my face and behind my ear. Or a little butt spank/slap when he kisses me goodbye. Or when he takes my hand and kisses it.

One time, we were walking hand in hand in a parking lot back to his car and I looked over and there was this lone flower growing out of a crack in the cement and I pointed it out, and he walked over to it and picked it and gave it to me, I thought that was so sweet.

Well after 3 years (he is Shy) telling me I am attractive, that he is interested in me and that I am his Friend! Thats all I needed to hear. The word Friend means so much to me and I do not take it lightly like a lot of people.

Well, i will honestly say that nothing very romatic has happened to me, but something did happen to my friend, and I will share it with you...Her and her boyfriend went to some fancy party for new years one year and he put an engagement ring in her champagne... When she came to her seat the host of this party was up on stage and called out her name and ask her to stand up and asked her and her boyfriend to come up on stage.. told them to bring their champagne of course... There is were it all happened. I cant remember exactly how the ring ended up on her finger.. But he proposed to her in front of thousands of people..She said yes....

It was really sweet and simple. On Valentines Day, he was going to be out of town, and so when I came home the day before he left this huge pot of candy and flowers and balloons and it was precious. That completely made my week.

I miss him :'( And its little things like that that will make me never forget him.
