....to do with the emergency red alert system that was in effect at that time. You are familiar with your television screen turning red and some sort of mosttimes garabled message telling us that this is "an emergency testing" "if this had been a true emergency" or something of that nature. I was wondering, since we didn't really know right away where the attacks were going to happen, and since we DID not know after the FIRST building was attacked,how many more attacks if any, were forthcoming.....
why we never saw this warning that day,

Guess it depends on where you live, but this was NOT a weather warning. And it wasn't a warning that was enacted 20 years ago. And even as we were to see what was going on on nearly every station, no one, EXCEPT of course, the perpetuators, knew where the next hit would be. I was looking at the overall picture regarding the United States. Not from viewpoint of New Yorkers. The attacks DID proceed to other cities. The events were EMERGENCIES at the HIGHEST SCALE.!

That Emergeny Alert System no longer exists, and hasn't for about 20 years. It was in effect back in the old days, before cable TV, when there were only three networks: ABC, CBS and NBC. It was developed during the Cold War scare when our government tried to tell us that the USSR was dangerous and crazy enough to launch a nuclear missile attack on us. (This was only a ploy to justify defense spending.) Anyway, the system was to be used if a nuclear attack knocked out all other communications. But nowadays we have such a multitude of electronic communications, with cable, satellite, the internet, etc. that the system is obsolete.

Good question, perhaps they thought having us watch the attacks on the news was more important than warning the public of an emergency.

I guess it depends on what part of the country you lived....
If you lived in New York there should have been an emergency warning but the thing is I'm sure no one knew what was going on yet....

that is a weather warning that you are talking about. its a secondary back up system to the tornado sirens we have.

its not meant to be used as warning for us to be attacked nor set up for such use. now today it might be even though we were attacked from within.

yes but on cable they started to show old reruns of shows like the pilot episode of friends and others i think they did it over and over again like all the shows were being broadcast form the wTc! and they had to switch over to some place that had only one video tape!

Because EVERY station had it LIVE while it was occuring! No need for any system, we were all there watching it.
