How do you know if a guy likes you?

I like this guy who HAS a gf but he is always looking at me. and my friend asked him if he liked me several weeks ago before i knew about his gf. he said yes. but the other day she asked him and he said no. and yet he keeps staring at me. does he really like me? i mean, his gf doesnt even really like him..
