Where should I look to find an apartment??

I am in Ottawa, ON Canada. I have been looking for over a month- I need a place for January 1st. I have searched websites, classified ads and still found nothing. I've found a few nice places but was not accepted (me and my boyfriend are only 21 and have no credit- so we're having a hard time!)

Please give me some ideas!!!

also, in the states we have a site called http://www.rent.com which offers $100 if you find and rent an apartment from their site. Perhaps you could find something like that too! Do the grocery stores there offer Apartment books? Listing all the apartments in your area?

You may want to drive the areas you are interested in and look for signs.

Also, talk to a few realtors in the area, here in victoria bc, us agents have an electronic bulletin board, on which we can post things like rentals, for rent and tenants looking to rent, and off course a good number of realtors know of investors that may be looking for tentants or are investment property owners themselves.

talk to the better property managing companies, and get them to approve you, and check their inventory with suitable property.

by the way, why not see if you can buy a property, be creative and see if you can get financing by using a good mortgage broker, as they are working for you and will be able to shop for all the options not just the ones one financial institution is trying to sell.

better yet see if there are owners of property that will carry some or all fiancing and or will sell under a rent to own program where part of your rent will go towards a downpayment and where you can convert the rental to a purchase at some pre determined date and price.
