I posted a question (a few actually) about getting a dog from a rescue centre, and the advice i was given was priceless. I have been today, walked 3 dogs, who were lovely, but i followed advice from you lovely dog owners, and knew what to look for, and how i would know i had found the one! I have just come back from an RSPCA kennels, and i have found my pup!!! She is a Border Collie, 18 months old, tri colour, totally adorable!!! partially trained, (she has spent time in a family, worked full time, could not keep her)I walked her, she is so lovable, and has a beatuiful nature, i am getting home visit tomorrow, to do the paperwork, so i can collect my new pet. She sits on command, and loves her tummy to be tickled, housetrained, and car trained, i am so excited at getting her, and THANKYOU all, who helped me, and advised me, and knew i would know instantly, when i found my new pet!!

Research her breed so you know whats going on when she shows a tendency to "herd" things.

She will require alot of exercise everyday too. BCs are great dogs if you are a great owner!

Good for you!!!

I did not answer your original question, just wanted to say congratulations on your new dog. I have a Border Collie and love him to pieces. I will post a couple of Border Collie sights for you for additional information. Good Luck.

PS-you will never find a more loyal companion than a Border Collie.

Good on yer!!! We had a Border Collie. What a superb pet he made, even though he had been very badly treated. Bear in mind, in a recent competition to find the most intelligent animals, dogs came top with Collies coming out as the top breed. You must keep their brain as well as their body occupied. They can get bored very easiliy. I wish you both a long and happy relationship.

Congrats and good luck with your new dog! I've been an animal rescue volunteer for years and have seen so many great dogs and cats at shelters...just waiting for the right person to come along and give them a real home. Glad you and your new baby found each other!

Congratulations on finding your rescue dog! I have a rescue Yorkie cross, called Billy and he is now 22 months old; he was 12 months old when we adopted him. Rescue dogs need lots of understanding, love and patience and it sounds as if you have all those things to give. Yes, it is instant when you find your new pet and giving a dog a good home is a wonderful experience.

I did not see your original questions but am pleased that you got such good advice and thought it through. you get some stupid answers and questions on here (I am fairly new). Dogs bring lots of love and i kept border collies for many years worked some with sheep as well. the one thing to remember they have active brains and need to be mentally stimulated even if it si being sent to find articles and bring them for you. I had 2 both worked sheep but they would fetch buckets of nails and hammers when i was fencing They loved it.
hope you have years of happiness with her.

I am so glad you decided to rescue a puppy. That's where all my dogs come from and I couldn't be happier. I have a Chow mix (our guard dog) He doesn't bite but he sure makes a lot of noise and is intimidating. We live out in the country. I have a German Shepard, Husky mix. She's just good for loving.

Ah bless, you got a border collie. Fantastic dogs, so loyal and intelligent. Mine is tri-colour and although he is 12yrs old he is still my baby boy, give him a ball and he will play for hours.

Good on you for getting a rescue dog! Hope you have many happy years with her. Good luck xx

I'm so glad you found the right pet, its sad when people have to go home and wait.
The dog sounds like it was rehomed for the right reasons from your point of view, rather than because it had behavioural problems.
Best of luck to you.
