When you bath your dog put some baking soda in the water. not only does baking soda help to eliminate odors, it softens the skin. Sometimes dogs have sensitive skin, that flakes. Dead skin smells. Some people use "skin so soft" from Avon, for their dogs. you just have to make sure you rinse it really well. You can wash your dog more often, or splurge for a pro job every once in a while. If you find a good one, they will even tell you what you can do. I am lucky we have a chi-wiener, so he's easy to bath!!

What happens if you bathe her more often? Some dogs do need baths more often and your Vet can tell you if she does. I had a German Shepherd Dog that had to be bathed weekly because of a skin condition. That together with a special diet kept the condition in check. Ask your Vet since your dog has a strong odor. There may be more going on than what you bathe your dog with. My dogs go to the dog park once a week and get a bath as they are leaving because the dog park is a bit smelly and they get really dirty. I use gentle shampoo on them and sometimes I make my own. One recipe for shampoo I have is to put a bottle of Guiness beer in a blender with a cup and a half of cooked instant oatmeal, a forth cup of aloe vera gel, four egg yolks, Vitamin E Oil and a forth cup of baby shampoo for pups.
I blend it together for a few minutes, put it in a container and then bathe all three of my big dogs with it.

I agree, try the food thing. There are some excellent brands out there you could try. These are a bit harder to find, but are some of the best foods you can get
Wellness
Innovo
Natural Balance
Canidae
Royal Canin
Those are so-called "Ultra-premium" brands. They are a little more expensive but perhaps worth the cost.
The brands like Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina One, etc are also good and they are easier to find and a bit cheaper, but they are not quite as good as the others I listed above. Check the ingredients on the bag. You should avoid anything that lists Wheat, corn or soy as the first ingredient. The first ingredient should be meat. Chicken, beef, venison etc. Also avoid anything that lists some sort of "meal" in the first 2 or 3 ingredients. Chicken meal, beef meal, these are left over parts considered unfit for human consumption all gound up together, Things like beaks, bones, hair, etc. yuk!

You need to change her food. My dogs get smelly with grocery store type foods. Change to a food like science diet or Iams or the similar. You'll notice a change in a few weeks. To avoid stomach upset be sure not to change foods to quickly. Mix them and introduce the new food for a few weeks. They will make less waste and the food is better for them. Plus you will actually feed less and they get more out of the food.

I think you should bath her every week, it won't do any harm. Maybe dog spray would be a good idea too.

I would just get a shampoo that is soft on their skin. And doesn't have a smell on them. Then I will use conditioner on them for soft hair.
