My boyfriend and i have been together for almost a year and half and are living together. I do not like his friend that he has had since elementary school (his is now 21). His friend uses cocaine, steals, and is constantly in trouble with the cops. My boyfriend is the complete opposite, he doesn't use drugs or get into trouble. About six months ago his friend stole a necklace that was given to me by my boyfriend and went through my personal information. From that point I told my boyfriend that I want nothing to do with his "friend." Three months ago during a drunken rage his friend threatened to kill me. He has a history of aggression and violence, espcially when he is drunk or high on coke. Although my boyfriend is no longer close with his friend, he does see him occasionally. I do not feel safe around his friend and I don't want to be associated with a cocaine addict. I told my boyfriend that he needs to choose me or his friend. Was this the right thing to do?

Do you really wanna spend the next few years with this guy who you obviously don't like anymore. He is bad for you. You obviously have enough on your hands without this lazy psycho dragging your life down. I would report this guy because not even being bipolar is an excuse for biting a cats tail over anger. How the hell did you get with this guy? I would kick him out if he touched my cat. I think you should get rid of him. He's technically cheating on you and expects you to buy him stuff. I want a job where I could kill people like that one day. He is sick in the head and you can't help him since he won't help himself. Dump him. Even if he kills himself(He won't) thats his fault. But seriously get away from him while you can(now maybe).

Yes Yes and Yes
You are more than right to ask that he not be over at your house, or in contact with you.
Why does you bf still hang out with this loser?
And after he stole from you?
You are 100% right, I couldn't stress that enough

I don't think it is right to ever make someone choose. It can backfire and cause resentment. Although, I definately think it is appropriate for you to lay down the law and say he is not welcome in your house, nor at any social events where you are present.
These people sound really young-(maturity)

OH MY GOD!!! If your boyfriend loves you or has any common sense he will leave that loser alone and you should seriously consider filing a protective order against him!!! Good luck
