I'm not a teacher, but I think I can answer this in part.
Those who do NOT graduate from High School tend to earn much less money over the course of their lives. There are rare exceptions to this. While earning money isn't the only important thing in life, it can help you do those things that you want to do.
Furthermore, as a drop out, you may not realize your full potential for your life, since so many employers or associations will not give you a chance without that diploma.
Finally, the teachers spend a lot of time, mental sweat and emotion on their students. They know the things I mentioned above, and they've also see other people with potential throw it away by not finishing school. It's a personal loss for them.
High school may seem difficult and/or time consuming now, but it will seem like a missed chance when you look back on it in a few years.

As a former teacher, I always hate to see a student drop out of school because I know they are throwing away the chance for a diploma which will get them in the door to much better jobs. We should never stop learning and a thirst for knowledge is such a gift and an education is something no one can ever take away from you. Life is full of challenges and the better equipped a person is to meet those challenges, the more successful they are likely to be. To drop out of school with so little time left to complete a high school education often sets up a pattern of leaving projects unfinished which is not a good habit for anyone.

Because students who drop out of high school limit the options for their future. While I would say that perhaps college isn't for everyone, I do think that most everyone can hang in and finish high school. Even students who pass the GED often find that it isn't as good as a diploma when looking for a job. A diploma shows the ability to stick to something and complete the task even if it isn't pleasant--an important ability for an employee to have. Also, it is much harder (and less often accomplished) to go back and finish high school later, than it is to go back to college later.
I do think that high schools should go back to offering more trade school type training for students who just aren't academic. Then students could get both a diploma and a job skill. Unfortunately, some years back the thinking shifted to trying to make everyone ready for college and focusing on reading, writing, and math, neglecting practical job training, which used to keep many students much more interested in school and less likely to drop out.

It's not a good situation. If the parents of the students question why an adult, who is an authority figure, hangs out with teenagers what could he say? He should be going to the movies with his wife. Also, if he does hang out with his students and is ever accused of inappropriate conduct (whether ir's true or not) he will have a difficult time denying it. Teachers are not in the classroom to be friends with their students. Also, how does he know that any advice he gives is the correct advice? Unless he is a trained psychologist he is not qualified to counsel students with their personal problems. For his sake, the sake of his career and the sake of your marriage he needs to modify his behavior. Also, if you have not done so, you need to speak with your husband regarding your concerns. His heart may be pure and he may feel that he is accomplishing something positive;but, as i said, the situation is not good.

Teachers know what any adult who has been through much of life knows: No one in this society is going far without at least a high school diploma. They are sad to see a young person throw their future away.

When a student drops out of high school, that's a sign that the teachers failed to do their job.
