Groan, then tell them you should kick their asss for wasting 3 minutes of your life.

I don't feel compelled to laugh.
In fact...I am not a "joke" person.
I am a satirical skit...or parody type person.
If the joke falls flat then it falls flat.
And for me...about 99 percent of the jokes fall flat.
I was Lenny Bruce fan in sixties.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Bruce
I was reading Lenny's autobiography..."How To Talk Dirty and Influence People" in the 8th grade.
Teachers didn't like it....parents didn't like it.
BUT NOBODY STOPPED ME.
They didn't even try....they just scowled.
AMERICA was, in a lot of ways, Freer back then.
About the only thing left of Lennys Legacy is the talking dirty part.
And, when I hear some old audio of his there is not that much of that either.
But all Lenny had to do was say one naughty word and he was in handcuffs.

You should think about practicing laughing. In a bad situation like that, just use your fake laugh to cover up for something that is not funny. Or you could always tell them directly "that joke wasn't funny." It's your choice.

I don't always laugh at jokes that are funny, but I definitely don't laugh at ones that are awful.
I try not to be rude, but my exact reaction might relate to why the joke doesn't work. Is it obnoxious or offensive? Give the teller feedback in that case.
If it simply lacks humor you can (gasp) ask them to go over it again so you can try to figure out what's funny about it. Usually they might repeat it once, sometimes twice, but rarely a third time.

Depends on situation:
1 - If in a group I would just walk away.
2 - If alone I would tell the person that I don't like that type of joke & would appreciate it if he wouldn't tell those kind of jokes when you're around.

if you respect them or just don't want to embarrass them give a little laugh for them. if you don't have to worry about that then tell them that joke sucked, maybe even tell them why it sucks
now i really want to know what the joke was and what was so awful about it

It depends on the joke. If it's just corny or stupid, I just don't give a response. But if it's downright offensive, I make sure the teller knows- whether it be through body language, facial expressions, or an effective choice of words.

Theres two ways to fix this , You could let them know if it offended you or it was just bad or if you dont want to feel like you might be hurting there feelings you could just laugh anyways. It wont take alot of time and it will make the other person feel better about themselves knowing that they made you laugh.

What kind of bad joke? is it a racist one, or depicting a religion or just a plain old stupid joke that is not funny at all? just don't laugh, or tell a funnier one.

Simply tell him/her that you don't get it, keeping as straight a face as possible, and try and change the direction of conversation as quickly as possible so the person doesn't have time to explain it. If the person is stubborn enough to keep on trying to explain it, just say you don't get it and after his/her fifteenth attempt it is unlikely that you ever will.
