It is an Americans celebrating of passing the first hard winter at Plymouth, then having a bountiful harvest.
Otherwise, sit round, eat too much, burp, be thankful, watch American football (a game with no real sense to me), and be thankful for the things life has given. Apparently like Christmas it is a day when some people must put up with in-laws and distant relatives they can not stand, and otherwise can't stand. BLAH!

It's a joyful day that we are suppose to be thankful for what we have in life, like our family etc. The main tradition is to usually have family over and have a big dinner,or spend it with someone that is gratefully equal that they can share some good quality time with you, thankful for friendship and for having the food to share among others,it's a time to feel really blessed for what you have because there are so many with a lot less than we have and are not as fortunate. Dont be afraid or feel like your less of a person because the best thing that someone can hear is I'm thankful for being apart of this family and I love you. You never know when that could be the last holiday that you spend with family so always give THANKS on THANKSGIVING DAY.

Right Windbag. The only non thankful creature is the Turkey. Traditionally the Pres. gives a Turkey a pardon on the White House lawn. Just what it's being pardoned for is not clear. Not voting Republican perhaps!

It was originally started when the settlers came to America from Europe. Many of them did not survive the harsh winter the first year because they were only surviving by being totally self sufficient. The ones that did make it all got together and had a huge meal and gave thanks to God for making it through the difficult past year. And it was called Thanksgiving.

The Americans were starving. The Indians fed them through the famine. They killed the Indians after the famine, and have celebrated the case since. Nice of them.

it's the process by which Americans celebrate gaining their freedom from the Indians, by way of giving thanks. it originally started when the first settlers entered America and were helped by the Indians, exchanging food for other things they were carrying, i think.
