The United States of America was founded on the principal of religious freedom. Over the centuries many belief systems have come to these shores. Never have Americans feared a belief system so much as Islam. We paint all Muslims with the same brush because your Imams confess that the objective of Islam is to kill all non believers. Until Muslims stand up to the Imams and reveal the peaceful nature of Islam vales and beards scare us.
There is so much revolt within the Islamic congregations about what Muslims believe how can we trust people who don't trust each other. How can we trust Saudis who stop being Muslim the minute their airplain leaves Saudi air space.
911 was not a silly mistake it was a nightmare. Some rich dude blew up our family. Theres no turning back the radicals must be stopped and thats a burden that good Muslims have to bare.

I guess I can only respond personally to this. A shared religion is a poor excuse for prejudice. I think people from Muslim countries (regardless of religion) and people from America (regardless of religion) are more similar than we could ever see ourselves across the vast ocean. You see, we are all people. People with essential value as created and unique individuals - even the ones who made mistakes (in all cultures and religions). It doesn't excuse the mistakes from consequences; the events leading to the horror of 9/11 are inexcusable, for example; but the mistakes don't change the truth either. I am hurt that some professing Muslims murdered so many people that day, but I am determined that I will never hate the people of the nation of Islam as a whole because of the choices of a few.

Does the Quaran truly teach hatred, murder, and torment of non-believers in contemporary times? If so, in that light alone, not even taking into consideration my own faith, I cannot accept it. But I can accept that you are a person with value, regardless. I would not hate you because you are Muslim; it would be contrary to my own faith. Hatred of people never solves anything. It is not necessary to affirm someone's beliefs in order to understand that that person is a valuable, special, and integral part of the human race. It is the practices and preaching that go against this that I cannot stand (by the way, Islam is not the only religion that adheres to those standards, if indeed it does).

As for the media, I don't know what to think. On one hand I am thankful for the exposure I get - without it, I would probably never see most of the countries covered. However, I am cautious about how the media portrays anything. I also wonder if people in Muslim countries get media coverage from the US and what it makes them think about Americans. If you were a guest in my home, you would be welcomed. We would eat, talk, laugh, look through photos, get to know one another. That is what I have always known as being an American. There are extremes here, as there are everywhere, but it's not the norm. I bet it's similar to what you feel about your own home. I just wonder if global media coverage has botched that too.

I will freely admit that there are things about the Muslim culture that I do not understand. There are some things that I understand that I really disagree with. But it doesn't keep me from seeking to learn about those things. We don't have to agree with all aspects of each other's beliefs and cultures to accept one another. The thing of it is: THERE ARE SO MANY CULTURAL DIFFERENCES! Where Americans are comfortable in disassociating religion from race or nationality, those from Muslim countries may prefer to integrate it all - religion, politics, family, etc. (For example, I don't say, "I am American therefore I am Christian. Rather, I am both Christian and an American.) Until both see that either way can be manageable, there will be no respecting of either. The problem is going to be perpetuating that sentiment among enough people in both parts of the world, despite negative press, stereotypes, and historical tension to make a difference in how we both see and portray one another.

Great question by the way. I often wonder the same from the flip-side. Thanks for asking.

I have lived in suburbs in Australia that have a heavy Muslim society.
I felt accepted and even part of the community. I didn't feel anything bad or such. I enjoyed some of there traditions and was even invited to share in some.

I'm grateful for the experience now I'm older.
because it opens my eyes up.
I don't group the Muslim community together as a whole.
Everyone is an individual.
That is what makes it so hard.
You don't know who you are to be scared of because of the attacks. I can see this only getting worse not better.
Which is a horrible shame..
The prejudice and fear that people will feed on to outcast and harm others.

The younger generation will grow up with the hate and fear on both sides, one to defend themselves again them and there beliefs and the others to defend there fear of being attacked.

It is a shame.
All we can do is open up our hearts and hope and pray these attacks will stop and people will feel safe again as not to attack and see the Muslim society as a religious people.

Blessings

The general feeling around the world about muslims is that:-
1. Muslims are devout about their religion
2. This is taken to a point of Jihad which is very bad.
3. Unmindful of the general good of the world as a whole, increase their population by not following any birth control programmes.
4. Not giving adequate rights to their women.
5. No one bothers to give basic education to be given to all and atleast to the level of school leaving certificate.
6. Essntially good people, being led badly by fatwas. (There are great respect for some of mullahs, and an exception.)

Almost all the Muslims I have met are very nice and hospitable people.

I'm curious: why do you think so many Muslims ask questions like this? In particular, I've noticed many, many questions asking how people feel about Muslim women wearing scarves on their heads. I don't know if I've seen nearly so many questions from other groups asking what we think of their group. So this is a sincere question: why do Muslims ask questions like this?

It's not Osama bin Laden that makes Muslims look bad. It's Islam itself. Read your quran. Muhammad tells his followers to freely kill Christians and Jews and enslave their wives and children. It is also discouraged for any Muslim except clerics to even read the quran. If you actually read it, it is full of hatred, terrorism, and immorality. True Muslims are evil, but not all Arabs are true muslims. Some of you are good people, you just follow the wrong faith. Accept Yahushuah as your saviour and join the rest of the righteous, forgiving people in Heaven with Yahuweh.

I feel that all religous people are worshiping false gods. Theres ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF of ANY god whatsoever, AT ALL.

THATS why its called FAITH, not TRUTH. THats why its called BELIEF, not REALITY.

All religions are about controlling people. Not setting them free. BUT muslims for one, seem to have a sexually controlling religion. Such as getting 70 VIRGINS in their version of heaven. THATS freaking strange. Why such an obsession with sex? Even when youre DEAD?

WEIRD.

But all religions are worshiping false gods, might as well worship Athena and Zeus or pink el;ephants or martians. Theres just as much proof that Martian God in the shape of PINK elephants exist as there is that ANY God exist.

I don't have a problem with anyone.Though it bothers me that you refer to these terrorist acts as mistakes!?A mistake is something one does not mean to do or does not mean to harm someone else.I am not racist but I am against killing thousands of people to prove a point! It also seems a bit strange that you type hahaha after making reference to AL qaeda and beating women.Do you find this funny?
