You said in your first statement "gotten away with it." You obviously know it's rude.

The person who said that has probably had enough of hearing maybe even smelling your burps. I'm guessing because someone did say it's rude that you're NOT saying "excuse me" and are probably purposely burping for the fun of it.

Yes, people need to burp and I'm sure this person wouldn't have said anything if it was on occasion and you did excuse yourself.

There's a girl at my work who burps and farts ALL THE TIME and laughs about it afterwards. She thinks it's hilarious mean while everyone around her thinks she's classless and disgusting. It would be different if it was accidental and she did excuse herself but because she does this daily without a thought for anyone around her it's down right rude.

Have a bit of respect for yourself and the people around you and atleast say excuse me.

I guess it depends on your behaviour..

for example.. if your just walking around burping every where.. not giving too hoots about anyone else.. sure that's rude.

If you burp and cover your mouth while burping and say excuse me after it.. then that's OK..
we have to expel gas or we explode.. either its burping or farting its natural .. we have to expel it.. but its not that pleasant for others to hear or smell it.. so we have to be conscious of our surroundings and be polite.

Yes- if you do burp, you always say 'Excuse me' or 'Pardon me' or leave the room or something- plus, it's just gross.
