Contact them first. Find out if it is a legitimate check. Call the BBB or Attorney General to see if it is an honest business (unless you are sure of their credibility). If it is a financial company that is sending you money to create a debt, be careful. The interest is not ever worth the loan. They don't do it because they are your friend, they do it to make money...your money.
ONLY cash it if it is completely legit and without obligations or "strings attached" no matter how attractive $7400 is to you now (it is meant to be attractive...presuming it is a loan/check.)
I don't have enough information to make a more informative statement regarding this check. Just whatever you do, seek wise counsel and have a nice day! :)

two thing,
1) a loan store wanting to give you a loan, telling you to go and cash it then you are stuck with a 19% loan... Some class action lawsuits are pending on some of these.
2) A CON is out there asking you to cash the check then sending you a check for like 4k. Contact the attorney generals office that check they will advise.

If you received a check and info requesting you to deposit it and wire money somewhere, like Nigeria - it is a scam. The check is counterfeit and you will be accountable for the money sent.

If you got this from some foreign country and you are supposed to cash it and wire them the money less 7%, call the FBI and report it, it's a scam.
