The tough thing about manners is that you can't really control anyone else's. You can really only use good manners yourself.
If you feel it's necessary to say something to him, then take him aside as a friend. When nobody else is around (to minimize embarrassment to him), just sort of ask him if he realized that it's considered rude to burp without saying "excuse me." Do it in the spirit of friendship, like you're trying to help him not embarrass himself any longer (especially in meetings!), and you'll get the best results.

Draw attention to it. Make a joke about it every time he does it -- the kind of joke that's funnier to others than it is to him. Make him aware he's doing something others may not be finding enjoyable.
Maybe make light of there being a funny smell - "is that what you had for lunch?" or "thanks for sharing your lunch with me" or "no thank you, i don't prefer to enjoy other peoples' meals" or something like that . That might shame him into behaving. Just becareful where and when you do this. You don't want to interrupt the boss or an important meeting.
You can't tell him straight out "don't do that" but he'll deny he's doing it or deny it's a problem.
You can try with "please I don't know if you realise it but..." but this is such a habit for him, even if he wants to make you happy, he may keep forgetting.

In his defense, if he does that often, he probably isn't aware of it. It could easily be a medical condition. This is not something men readily share. He isn't going to say, "hey, have you noticed how often I burp? I have this medical condition that causes it."
It is so normal for him that he doesn't say excuse me. You work closely enough to him and it bothers you enough that you have to address it or it will become increasingly aggravating to you.
I would get him aside and ask him if he is aware of how many times he does it and does not seem to be aware of it. Tell him you are concerned because it could be a health problem and he is not aware of it because it is part of his life. Let him know it bothers other co workers also. If you do it in a civil, friendly manner you will be doing him and yourself a favor.................

Sometimes digestive problems cause a lot of burping. This happens to me occasionally and when it happens every couple of minutes you stop apologizing. Try ignoring it or give him some Tums.

Does it bother anyone else? At meetings when he does burb, make eye contact with your boss. The best way to get things taken care of is to go above this guy and get your boss involved.
Talking with your boss wouldn't be a bad idea either, just be sure that other people are bothered by it.

Confront as it's completely unprofessional. Obviously it bothers you enough to ask about. If he's doing it meetings, ask other co-workers about him. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it really annoys you and prohibits or hinders your work you should resolve it.

I have a FEMALE coworker that does the same thing, except she know she is being rude and laughs about it. It amazes me the lack of manners some people have.

Talk to your boss about it. You boss is in the position of reprimanding an employee for inappropriate behavior, and that is certainly unacceptable. You are probably not the only one that is bothered by it.
