Are you supposed to tip the mailman/women at christmas? If so, how much?

Postal regulations forbid mail carriers to accept gratuities. Check with the postmaster at any post office. That doesn't mean individual carriers won't accept a tip - just that it's against regulations. However, it is always a kind gesture to remember the newspaper carrier, trash collectors and street sweepers (salt truck or snow plow drivers and such) with a little something for their services. $10-$20 per person should suffice. I'm willing to bet they won't forget you if you bake cookies for them instead. They will be working on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and all other holidays without fail. That's worthy of a personal "thank you" in my book - be it money or confection.

Tip - no. But you can leave them a present. Give the mailcarrier a $20 giftcard to Starbucks. C'mon - look at all the whiny waitresses complaining about tips, and here the poor mailguy has to lug all those packages and parcels around and no one ever tips him. If anyone deserves a tip that guy does.

Take it out of the whiny server's or hairstylist's tips if you want.
